By providing detailed explanations, definitions and regional case studies, this report showcases how various technologies have helped bridge critical gaps in data gathering, data processing and disaster risk modelling related to multiple hazards and at different scales in recent years.
The report concludes that despite substantial progress in areas such as Earth observation, early warning systems (EWS) and hazard analysis, it is clear that technology alone cannot resolve all DRR challenges. While artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have driven rapid advancements in these domains, their transformative potential depends on the successful integration of technology with socioeconomic, cultural and infrastructural considerations.
